Personal History

Not much is remembered of Ryan Smith's real history: no real name, no real parents, not even his actual birthday. It seemed that the first seven years of his life were nonexistent at all, nobody had any record of what happened... nobody except him. He really can't remember the actual details, but for purpose of this, I'll make it up for you. His real name, however much he didn't remember it, is Jacob MacMillan, born on September 6th seventeen years ago to parents Quinn MacMillan and Elinor MacMillan, both of Scottish descent. In reality, the MacMillans used to be one of the leading Scottish families in Glasgow... who led a shady business of course, selling illegal things to the wrong people. In his childhood, Quinn had it well off really, and he was used to having everything he wanted and needed and not having to work for anything. He was set to follow in his father's footsteps of leading the company and it would've been passed off to him, if not for a certain risk that Quinn's father took in order to accumulate more wealth: he engaged in a business involving shipping crates of their weapons to a certain group across the Atlantic. It would've been the greatest feat he had ever done, one that would ensure their wealth for years to come, until they realized it was all just a fraud to get them to sail across the seas, where their ship was shot down. Most their money had been used in that transaction, so when the ship went down and Quinn's father died, the business and everything went down with them, resulting in the MacMillan family's sudden decline to poverty.
Despite that, Quinn still got married, to a certain Elinor. They had been together for years before that and even in his current state, Elinor loved him all the same. Still, it was a hard life for the two of them, with Quinn not quite used to having to work for a living, and constantly getting fired from most of his jobs. The MacMillan name was reduced to nothing, even in the black market, and he had to start at nothing again to gain that back. Nobody forgot the mishap his father got into, it was constantly used and ridiculed against him. Two years after their marriage, Elinor gave birth to him, naming him Jacob after Quinn's father. Much as she loved to have a child of her own, the weight of their poor situation went down on her, and she found herself sometimes blaming the child for it, hating him for being an added burden to their lives. Secretly inside though, she loved him and would gladly give everything up for him. The same couldn't be said about Quinn though; he wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the kid being named after his father... his failure of a father, his father who risked everything and lost everything. He had to work twice as hard, to provide for himself and for Elinor before, but now to provide for their child as well.
It was a hard life they led, but it seemed that fate still had something worse in store for them. As luck would have it, Quinn got fired from one of his jobs again, and he went off his rocker after that. He wasn't used to this kind of life, having to work for everything, so he used the only way he knew, the life he used to live during his younger years. He needed money for his family to survive so he went ahead and robbed a bank, even with the little knowledge he had with doing it. Despite himself, he managed to kill six people before being caught and imprisoned soon afterwards. Life became harder for Jacob (Ryan) then, who was blamed for his mother for having pitted his father to do what he did. It was the lowest point of their lives, especially for the little kid who had nothing to eat and no comfort to feel from his mother. That wasn't the last of it though. Incidentally, one of the people that Quinn had killed when he robbed that bank was one of his father's enemies before, and it wasn't hard for them to trace the murder back to the MacMillans. In a form of revenge, they came and attacked the family of Quinn. His mother felt the danger before it was borne upon them, and she hid little Jacob before they came and murdered her, her child seeing the murder right in front of his eyes. Seemingly satisfied with their deed, the murderers left.
It wasn't long until Quinn learned of his family's predicament, and it pushed him off the edge. Thinking that he had nothing to live for, escaped from prison, killing off anyone who came across his path. It was one of the darkest days in Glasgow and definitely the worst for Quinn. It became easy for the police to track him down: he had headed directly towards his own home, wanting to prove to himself that his wife was still alive and that the police had just told him otherwise to make him break down and succumb to their power. Alas, it wasn't so when he arrived at his own home and found his wife murdered in cold blood in the middle of his living room and most of his furniture upturned and messed up. Despite his hardened shell through the years, the only person he really ever softened to was his wife, and to see her killed because of him destroyed Quinn. Using the gun he had taken from the police, he turned it on himself and committed suicide, not even thinking of the son he had left behind.
Jacob, who was 5 years old by then, had to live on the streets and fend for himself. It seemed that the murder that had happened before his eyes caused a huge impact on him, and for two years, he wandered the streets for two years, stealing food and doing anything to earn money. It became relatively easy for him really, because it was then that his powers started to surface, and he could charm some food into his hand from some stalls or people's wallets. He would've continued living like this, completely oblivious to the wrongs he was doing and the abilities he had, until by chance (or if fate would have it) when he was 7 years old, he tried to steal the wallet of Rory Smith, who caught him in the act by grabbing his hand. He started to cry, innocent as he was, and Rory's wife, Graziela, was moved with pity for the poor lad and took him in. When they asked him what his name was and where he came from, he couldn't reply to anything because after all those years, he truly had forgotten, adding the impacts of what he'd witnessed. Those were imprinted in his memories, but everything else faded. Since then, they renamed him Ryan Emmet Smith and took him in as their own.
While Graziela treated him completely as their own child, Rory was a different figure. He wasn't easily trusting of Ryan at first, and was detached from him, only acknowledging him when his wife asked him to. Plus, he had the odd feeling that Ryan was different, though he wasn't sure if that was a good different or a bad different. Ryan, at his young age, tried his best to become closer to the father figure in his life, but all in vain. It wasn't until Ryan caught Rory playing the guitar, something that really piqued his interest, and the two bonded over that. Through the years, the silent, introverted Jacob disappeared, and Ryan completely came into picture. His newfound freedom astounded him, and through that, he became an energetic and very adventurous kid. Everything and anything caught his curiosity and he would question a lot of things, but his curiosity was limited to his abilities. He never asked his adoptive parents about those; somehow he felt within himself that they didn't really know the answer themselves. Besides, compared to the normal childhood he could have, he really didn't want these abilities to pose as a way for him to be different again, to be separated from the rest.
They weren't a well off family and Ryan, thinking he was being a load to them, helped in any way he can to earn money. He played some songs sometimes on the street, took on small jobs like cleaning shoes or carrying stuff people bought and anything like that, anything to earn money. He was sometimes tempted to use his abilities to steal again, in an effort to help, but when he told his adoptive mother about it, she simply hugged him and told him it wasn't necessary for him to help out because they loved having him as their son. That really changed Ryan then, and he began to feel that he actually is a part of a family. It was also around this time that Ryan started to notice his neighbors.... well, one in particular. A boy who seemed to be his age, a bit tall for his age too. Ryan was apprehensive of him at first, but his want of a friend shone through and pretty soon, the two became thick as thieves, often running around the forest and just goofing around. One night, as the two were playing hide and seek in the forest, Jake got lost in the forest and was bitten by a werewolf, resulting in him becoming one as well during a full moon. He'd never told Jake, but he always felt responsible for what happened, and is incredibly guilty whenever he knows that Jake is going to transform soon and sees him covered with bruises afterwards. Despite his talkative mouth, Ryan has so far managed to keep the secret to himself.
When he turned 11, Rory's feeling of him being different was confirmed when they received a letter informing them about Ryan being a wizard and being invited to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was hard at first, they weren't sure how to provide money to pay for it, but they managed and Ryan finally got around to living in somewhere he truly felt he belonged. Especially after he got sorted into Ravenclaw, Ryan began to establish himself as one of the most hyperactive students the castle will ever know, not to mention one of the most imaginative and friendly. He quickly managed to make friends to almost everyone in his year and house and if not, it's definitely in his list of things to accomplish before he finishes seventh year. His time here has been colorful, so to speak, with numerous detentions than anyone would care to count, innumerable pranks and tricks and jokes to anyone who comes his way and countless friends that he'll cherish for his lifetime. He's been channeling his creativity to his music and his energy to Quidditch and sports, so I think that's been sorted. As usual, the throes of teenage life are calling to him.
Aside from one summer fling involving a French girl called Roni and a night of partying and debauchery, the only serious relationship Ryan has found himself in is the one he is currently in with one Julia Crown. The two had met during Ryan's sixth year at Hogwarts and it could easily be said that it was love at first sight... or like, so to speak, since love really seems to be a deep term I can't even begin to use. It was an accidental meeting with his old friend, Jo Croft, at Honeydukes one day as they were trying to decide on what to buy, and upon spotting a familiar face, Julia had approached Jo as the two were talking, and they were properly introduced. Ryan tried his best to impress her with his antics (which involved pretending to be a knight and playing dead), but to no avail it seemed. Ever since then, he's tried his best to ask her out or talk to her, but his lack of confidence on himself pushed through. She finally showed her interest and the two started a friendship, with apparent feelings for each that went beyond that. Soon enough, the two became a couple... and then trouble ensued in the form of someone named Xander DuNoir.
Xander DuNoir had tried to sway Julia to his side and it seemed so that he was succeeding. Rumors were spreading around about people spotting Julia and Xander spending more and more time together, but being how he is and how he doesn't like gossip, Ryan didn't believe any of them and stuck to his trust on Julia. People tried to warn him about it, but to no avail. It happened that on one of Hogwarts' many dinners, people seemed to be having a confrontation of sorts from all tables, but Ryan kept his nose in his food and minded his own business. He would've remained that way all dinner until his friends tapped his shoulder and pointed towards the Gryffindor table, where he saw Julia and Xander seated together and having a laugh. Until now he's not sure if it's just his jealousy or if there really was something going on, but he felt anger like he'd never had before, and before his friends could stop him, he had rushed to the two and punched Xander twice on the nose and spouted off angry words at his girlfriend before rushing off. He was promptly punished with detention for the rest of the year with Snape for that, but he didn't care because he was definitely hurt by what happened. He was oddly detached and moody for some time afterwards, even going so far as forgetting his fedora one day, but he and Julia managed to patch it up (much to some people's dismay) and now they're stronger than ever, especially after Ibiza.
Now, Ryan is starting his seventh and last year at Hogwarts, with one surprise starting it all - he had been made Deputy Head Boy! Well, it was more of a disappointment to him really, but he didn't decline it - he took it as a challenge and made it his personal aim to prove that Dumbledore is really going off his rocker. Other than that, the year has yet to start it's charm and already, he's hoping to make it the best he'll ever have... or anyone will ever have, despite the fact that a certain High Inquisitor has made it her personal agenda to ruin everyone's lives. Hey, there hasn't been an authority figure that could stop Ryan, and no High Inquisitor will change that.
Personality Edit
Although he had had the misfortune of going through some difficult times in his past, Ryan doesn't let these things deter him. However, it cannot be said that these haven't affected his judgment and his personality. Ryan's generally a goofball. He can be here, there and everywhere, as long as that place is crawling with people and fun. Possessed with an inquisitive and curious mind, it doesn't take long for Ryan to find himself in trouble, or maybe it was trouble that found its way to him. Equipped with his guitar and his sultry voice, he finds he can write and sing about most of the things that happens in his life and uses this as his coping mechanism towards his problems. Found with a cheery smile, a mischievous glint in his eyes and a bottle of butterbeer in his hand, it won't take long for most people to warm up to Ryan Smith.
