Personal History

Born in the highlands of Scotland, Jake had a fairly normal childhood with his parents and older siblings. Peter was an arrogant, rough boy who already showed some bullying traits and loved to wrestle with Jacob, not ever liking it if Jake cried or showed any weakness. Laura, although was snobbish and bitchy to others had a soft spot for her little brother and constantly tried to help teach him the piano (his mother was a talented player and she'd taken after her) - however, despite having no natural musical talent she was very calm and patient with him. His mother was a housewife with exceptional beauty and musical talent but never liked to show off - she was a soothing presence and a caring woman and would happily entertain anyone who came around to the house. This included many of the darker members of their family who took a great interest in young Peter, who showed quite a high magical potential from an early age - she always simply said it would be his choice what to do, but believed her son would take a neutral path. Her father, meanwhile, worked in the Ministry of Magic and held some small influence, but his neutral status never really did him much favour with either the Light or Dark sides.
Oblivious to he politics of the world, Jake was an active and happy child from a young age, loving to run around in forests beisde their house and simply enjoy life. When he was eight, he got lost in the forest on full moon while playing with neighbour and best friend Ryan Smith, resulting in being bitten by a werewolf. Since then, he has lived through the painful transformations, fearful that he could bite someone else, or even kill someone. During his first transformation, in which his brother got so worked up his father took him and his twin sister Laura out, leaving Jacob's mum behind to keep an eye on him. The werewolf, powerful and untamed due to no wolfsbane, managed to escape its holding place and smelt blood - the family returned later to find Jacob's mother dead with the wolf standing over her. They fled and returned the next morning, finding a near comatose Jacob, and both his siblings disowned him before leaving. Ever since then, despite a lack of money, Jake's father has always tried to afford Wolfsbane, however, Jake's worst fears are starting to be realised, with wolfsbane not working anymore. He is losing more control with each full moon, hence his injuries are becoming more severe and he has had to put his trust in Healer George Bauer to help him - he doesn't like people knowing his secret, for obvious reasons, but George has proven herself to be not only trustworthy but a real friend.
Added by Sc190He is the cousin of notorious prankster SC Fletcher hence was involved in some mischief when younger - he was a watchman yet she always got him into trouble for it. Still, she always kept an eye out for him and after a spell living with SC and her family (after his mother was killed), she took him under her wing and easily claimed the title of being his favourite cousin. Now she is gone he is determined to make her proud, even if he had a brief falling out with her over the fact that she couldn't come to his dad's funeral due to her work commitments - she is the person who seems to know everything and if in a jam he'll always go to her for advice.
The MacLeishs are an old and noble Pureblood family. His grandparents were all Dark (one being one of Grindlewald's Generals) and were once very active in their beliefs, but old age has dimmed it to a passing distaste - his parents were neutral, as was he until the kidnap of his cousin as he considered turning Light. However, his love for Cassie Lestrange made him stay neutral, in the vain hope that would be enough for them being together to be acceptable. Despite all this, however, he is friendly and happy to accept anyone, not caring for house prejudices. He tries his best to help new people, to be friendly and is relatively popular, but is still slightly ignorant of it. He even has some stalkers, but tries to avoid them as much as possible, for obvious reasons.
Throughout his time at Hogwarts, Jake pretty much scrapes by in terms of his work - his best subject, however, is History of Magic - he is a History buff, in fact. For the rest of his subjects, he tries only if he cares, hence his previously low grades (much to the frustration of his teachers). He is a typical 17-year-old worrying about work, life and of course, love.
Currently he is deeply in love with Cassiopoeia Lestrange, formerly a Death Eater to be and ex-fiancee of Xander Du Noir. The affair started near the beginning of their fifth year at Hogwarts. Having previously been rivals and were known to annoy each other, Cassie was given the task of finding out for certain of Jake was indeed a werewolf. However, as the two slowly became more friendly to the extent when the two secretly got along very well, she decided that she couldn't allow him to be put at risk in such a way and decided to lie to the Death Eaters to protect him. He initially refused, also not wanting her to be put at risk and when she challenged him as to why he actually cared he admitted to her that he liked her. She replied that she only saw him as a friend. However, several days later, the two bumped into each other again while Jake was making his way down the Hospital Wing to get help for post-transformation pain. After initial awkwardness, the two started talking again and she offered to help him to his destination due to his bad leg. He suggested she could stay and a bit and she agreed, before she admitted that Xander, her fiancee, didn't want to go public about their relationship, which Jake scoffed at, and jokingly suggested she just tell Xander she didn't want to be exclusive and to simply date someone else. She said 'alright', to Jake's astonishment, and his shock almost caused her to leave in her uncertainty as to whether this was him asking her out - however, he pulled himself together and this began their relationship.
The two secretly met around the school, Cassie breaking up with him at one point because she didn't want to hurt him when she finally left the school to marry Xander. However, after this happened, Jake met George Bauer, who knew about the relationship and urged him to not give up. Subsequently, Jake told Cassie that he didn't care how long it lasted, that he loved her and wanted to be with her for however long he could and the two quickly made up again. It was on this night thatNick Hackett found out about them, but he would keep it quiet, much to Jake's gratitude and would help Jake cover for times when he was meeting Cassie.
While Du Noir turned Jake's former best friend Julia Crown into a new Cassie, in a way, Cassie risked up her future to be with Jake and when Du Noir finally found out about the secret relationship in the Globe at Christmas because of a truth spell, she was taken out of Hogwarts, but not before they could spend some last days together, which included Jake giving her a ring as a Christmas present. It was initially meant as a way he could communicate with her, but she knew this wouldn't be allowed so he simply offered it to her as a ring. She didn't want it to be just this though, so Jake proposed to her - but because of the cirmcumstances, she said no. She promised that if the two were still together at the age of twenty-five she would say yes, but both knew that this wasn't likely. When the Globe came down, Cassie only had time to say a quick goodbye to him before she was made to leave and Jake was deeply depressed, certain she'd be killed.
Then, Jake found out that his father died. His father had previously been sick and very poorly since a very bad case of dragon pox to such an extent that he was bedridden for the finals year of his life and Jake had to rely on his family to help take care of him while he was at school - this usually meant that he returned home over the holidays and he became something of a domestic carer, learning to clean, cook and otherwise to help take care of him - he found a passion for cooking from this and continues to love to cook even now. The sickness also meant that Jake and his dad just about scraped by on money terms, but neither minded and were as thick as thieves, which was why Jake took his death so hard. His siblings, who disowned Jake many years ago, didn't want him to go to the funeral and tried to go on without telling him about the actual death (despite not having spoken to their father in several years) but his uncle (SC's dad) worked around them and got to him in time. Breaking down upon hearing the news, Jake numbly went to the funeral and then to a small gathering held at his house after. After a run-in with his siblings, he put his brother into hospital after he mocked Jake for being a murderer and a werewolf, adding that all werewolves should die. Jake left in an angry storm and went slightly off the rails.
He slowly started to get over his tragic losses and is trying to get himself together - this was helped greatly by the return to Hogwarts of Cassiopoeia Lestrange, with the two able to finally go public with their relationship (much to Jake's shock at the time). After an adjusting period in Ibiza, trying to make sense of this new dynamic, the two returned to Hogwarts, finding Jake's sister had been installed as the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts, much to Jake's dismay.
He went out of his way to avoid her but encountered her along with Cassie after a transformation, where she threatened to make his life a living hell. Jake managed to make it around the corner before crumbling and Cassie comforted him - oddly, it seems as if Laura managed to bring the two of them closer, with the following conversation ending up with Cassie apparently 'mishearing' a joking comment Jake made about marriage and she told him to ask again - this is when Jake proposed and Cassie accepted, much to his shock and delight.
The two had a slightly wobble around Halloween, when Cassie found a letter Jake had written and had never intended to send, outlining some of his worries, that she didn't know what she was getting in to marrying a werewolf who could die at any full moon and that any future children could be werewolves too, and Cassie told him she was tired of picking him up and him doubting her love when she'd given up so much for him, telling him it was over. However, the two made up a couple of days later and continued on - this was when things started to go wrong, however, and on Valentine's Day of that year Cassie told him under the influence of a truth potion that she didn't want to get married, simply to be with him. This shook Jake but he tried to continue on before eventually, when Cassie said she didn't want to consider moving in with him, breaking it off, tired of being hurt and afraid she was slowly trying to break up with him. He regretted it almost instantly but she refused to talk to him, heart-broken.
After a month or so Cassie was summoned home, the day before which they shared a kiss and she told him she would speak to him when she got back. When she didn't seem to return Jake left school believing she didn't want to face him with a no or was just trying to mock him. In fact, she had been tortured for loving him and refused to let him get hurt in her place and was unable to move, being taken care of by another Death Eater friend who she would eventually start to date.
The two had several angry meetings upon his return, during which time he spent several weeks travelling around Europe, eventually returning to everyone's annoyance and hurt that he ran away, something he found hard considering he'd decided that running away was in fact a bad idea and was determined to face everything. The two slowly started to become friends again despite their awkwardness, both finding other people to be with including, for Jake, one Elizabeth Selene, his friend's wife who he shared a short affair with - however, despite this, he was still in love with Cassie and simply accepted this, only wanting her to be happy.
At the end of the trip to Ibiza that year, things changed again thanks to one Jo Croft, who was sick of all the secrets and lies at the school and gave a rather matter-of-fact summary of certain events - including Jake's obvious love of Cassie. Jake, surprisingly composed, asked to speak to Cassie and admitted this was true, although before they could discuss it more her boyfriend, Theodore Aiken, stormed in angrily and threw a few punches. Jake simply left, determined to just get on with it and continue being her friend, which was more than necessary when they were appointed Head Boy and Head Girl for their final year at Hogwarts (something which, at the time, they believed was down to Dumbledore on drugs).
A couple of days later, Jake was kidnapped by Theodore for Jake's brother Peter. He was tortured brutally for several days and only survived because his brother, sadistically, declared he wanted another go before Jake died. He was dumped in a random area and left for dead, but was luckily found and sent to St Mungos. He returned to Hogwarts at the start of school and sent Cassie a letter asking if he could talk to her after their Head/Prefect meeting the next day. Having found out what happened, Cassie angrily asked him why he hadn't told her (although this was why he had been asking to meet) and the two parted ways again.
Another meeting found the two becoming more friendly yet again before, when things moved past superficial, Cassie went to leave, only for her to admit, when Jake pushed the point, that she couldn't just do superficial with him and kissed him before finally leaving, leaving the school for a couple of weeks to clear her head in New York. Jake, determined, followed her (with company from his bros) but couldn't change her mind, instead meeting her new friend and enjoying the area before returning to the school.
After Cassie's return at Halloween, she sent him a letter admitting that the trip had allowed her to see that she was still in love with him and wanted to take things slowly and try again. Jake asked to meet her and the two finally got back together, determined this time not to let anything ruin their relationship, wanting to take things a day at a time and to have the communication they failed at before. However, they knew they would have to keep it a secret again, for Cassie was once again involved with Death Eaters and he knew he couldn't put her in danger. Part of this plan, however, saw her father and the father of Theodore want their children to marry - however, as they'd asked for it the next day, Cassie returned back and explained this to Jake, who wildly suggested they get married first so the second marriage would be void (although it would not seem this to the Death Eater parents). Cassie agreed and the two were quietly married in an old church in the Scottish Highlands, run by an old friend of Jake's father who specialised in these kind of marriages during the first and second wars.
They decided at the time to not think about it and continued on being together, sneaking around until, as the Final Battle approached, Cassie admitted she was scared of them getting him instead of her and broke it off again. The Final Battle occurred soon afterwards, leaving Cassie injured after duelling her mother. Jake, finding her in this state, rushed to help her and nursed her back to health.
In this odd new world of being able to go out together in public, they still prefer being alone together (albeit it wasn't always possible in Jake's flat due to the stay of his bro Ryan and visits from his girlfriend Aaren - this inflicted a terrifying tradition of bubblebath Wednesdays which, to this day, has mentally and emotionally scarred Jake on many levels :P) and struggled a little to adjust, particularly into the transition to a normal couple. However, they have finally started to be able to properly open up and share everything, with a secret divorce finalised to allow them to continue on normally. This included Cassie slowly moving in, unaware she was doing so, and her fully moving in (and Ryan out) after graduation.
Jake is now working on Honeydukes full-time, although he will soon, when his author gets around to doing it, get a part-time History research post that will see him split his time between the two until he is able to establish himself more in the field.
Personality Edit
Despite all the bad things that have happened to him, he is an optimistic, warm, lovely guy with a good heart, the kind of guy who is friend to all. He accepts everyone, doesn't judge people by their house or their reputation (although he does take note of it) and is always there to help out if someone is in need (he's sometimes called upon to help with bullying, for example) - although he does love to annoy certain Slytherins because of their attitudes towards anyone less than Pureblood, even if his family is strictly neutral.
In terms of school, he usually only tries if he enjoys the topic - generally, this limits him to average grades and outstanding ones with no inbetween. His favourite subject is History of Magic, which he is particularly passionate about to such an extent that he's learnt other languages such as Gobbledegook and Elvish (thanks to the help of half-elf Anira Ahlenia) to study their history as well. In terms of the more fun aspects of school life, such as Quidditch, he doesn't really play much and doesn't really follow it but enjoys going to support his House. He can also be dragged into playing a friendly game if forced and is usually stuck as keeper because of his height and his stability against bludgers but doesn't mind doing it, even if his love of sports is totally lacking. He isn't generally the type of guy to party either, but can be known to have a few drinks (and more if best friend Ryan has anything to say about it). He is the more sensible of the two and feels that someone has to have some sense, so perhaps this also contribute in some kind of unconscious level - that and not wanting to lose control of himself for fear of what the werewolf could do, perhaps.
He is surprisingly world-weary for his age and quite wise too, usually someone to go to for good advice or the guy who will tell you to get over yourself, although doesn't openly advertise his services - it generally happens if he stumbles across someone in need of it or if a close friend comes to him. Generally, he is rather optimistic at heart, although he suffers constant nightmares about some of the awful moments in his life and his sleep pattern changes with the moon. He is also widely seen as a bit clumsy (but this is just a cover for when he turns up once a month with fresh cuts and bruises from his latest transformation) and can be dragged into trouble against his will, although doesn't mind as much as he says.
He is usually quite stubborn if he firmly believes something and won't easily be persuaded it's wrong, normally relatively cheerful, friendly, likes to smile and laugh (he grins a lot), is laid-back in general (although is starting to work hard when needs be) and babbles quite a bit too once you get him going - he is generally only speechless in the worst moments of his life. He also isn't the kind of guy to really share everything he's feeling, but is quite open with his close friends.
He is also naturally a bit jealous, as learnt when he couldn't cope easily with seeing Cassie with Xander and while generally good at reading people can be oblivious and awkward with girls.

Werewolf Edit
Having been bitten when he was eight, Jake constantly deals with his werewolf self, whether it is during a transformation or suffering nightmares about what he has done during them. In the beginning, Jake dealt with several months of painful transformations because his family couldn't afford the high cost of Wolfsbane. However, after the death of his mother, he first of all spent several months with his cousin SC Fletcher's family (who paid for it having not known before about his condition) and they eventually helped to chip in wihen his father got a bad case of the dragon pox which made him bedridden and unable to work.
Later on, during his time in Hogwarts, Jake tries to keep this secret completely under wraps, although several students do know (some against his will). People simply assume he is clumsy because he shows up every month with fresh cuts and bruises. However, Xander Du Noir suspected Jake's werewolf nature and Death Eaters employed Cassiopoeia Lestrange to look into it. However, it was at this time the two had become friends and this feeling slowly developed until their relationship started after she helped him to the Hospital Wing after a particularly bad transformation brought him a lot of pain the night after. She also lied to the Death Eaters saying he wasn't what they suspected, although Xander kept investigating. Eventually, the truth of his werewolf status and his relationship with Cassie was revealed to Xander in the Globe at Christmas, when the three were shut in a room that made them tell the truth. it was after this Cassie had to go on the run and Xander was sworn to secrecy by the Headmaster to make sure Jake's secret remained a secret.
Currently, Jake is trying to keep some control during his transformations, because he has built up a resistance to the potion, but only had brief moments of control - otherwise, the wolf is fully dominant. However, he can't escape the room he uses, thanks to charms put up by SC which keep him inside.
Relationship with Cassiopoeia Lestrange Edit
The two used to minorly annoy each other and try to do so because of their different views. However, the two slowly became friends at the start of their fifth year. As mentioned in the section above, the two slowly became friends and then eventually got together. Cassie was worried about the whole thing, worried she would get in too deep and broke up with Jake on Halloween night. However, George Bauer stumbled across him, talked sense into him and got him to go after her to tell her it didn't matter and that all that mattered was the here and now. The two quickly made up because of this and would remain solid from then on, but were discovered by Nick Hackett in the act of making up. However, he promised to keep quiet about the whole thing and did so.
Their demise would lie in a room Jake's cousin SC Fletcher, which occured in the Globe Room. The truth was eventually revealed and Xander was so furious that he slammed Cassie into a wall, breaking her back. Jake would carry Cassie to Healer George Bauer to get help with Xander would be stripped of his Head Boy powers and sworn to secrecy about Jake's werewolf secret. Meanwhile, Jake didn't leave Cassie's side and as they lay in the bed together he gave her a ring he was going to give her for Christmas. Eventually, he used it to propose but she turned him down, saying if it had been a normal relationship she would have said yes but couldn't now. This would be one of their last moments together before the wards fell around the Castle and Xander reported what had happened to her parents, who took her out of the school. However, Xander did help her escape her prison before she was killed and Cassie is currently on the run. Jake and Cassie did bump into each other again when she accidently apparated into Hogsmeade and Jake took her to his home for a night before she left to continue her journey on the run alone.
She returned to Hogwarts five months later and their relationship became public. They were engaged in the September of that year.
Death of his FatherEdit
Jake and his dad had always been close, but after the death of his mother and the refusal of his siblings to be associated with him, the two became inseparable. His father was the one who taught him things such as mechanics (something he utilised to rebuild two motorbikes, one for him and one for his cousin SC who charmed them both so they could fly) and wood carving objects and made sure to do so before his chicken pox took away most of his power to leave bed or even move. His dad got dragon pox when Jake was thirteen and subsequently Jake had to rely on his family to help take care of his dad while he was at school, particularly several of his Aunts and Uncles and his Grandparents.
He had always prepared himself for the worst, but the whole thing was shocking for him when it finally happened, as he only found when his Uncle came to tell him the news and that his siblings had tried to make sure he couldn't find out until after the funeral. However, Jake made it there and eventually ended up in a fist-fight with his older brother, who he beat to a pulp before storming off, picking up his dad's old leather jacket (which he frequents now) on the way. Currently, his Aunts and Uncles are all fighting over custody of him, mainly for their own means, although his dad had stated that custody would be given to his cousin SC Fletcher's parents.
The whole thing has given him an attitude change, mainly meaning he is more liable to snap at people and isn't as easy going nor as cheerful. However, he is slowly getting over this, but it is a slow and steady process.
Character Trivia Edit
- Jacob was originally created to the be the enemy and rival of Cassiopoeia Lestrange - who he eventually ended up falling in love with.
- He has a fear of being trapped in chains and cages and has constant nightmares about the death of his mother.
- Because his dad was so sick, Jake had to learnt to take care of them both - as such, he's a rather competent chef and loves to cook. His dad also taught him all about mechanics (in fact, Jake rebuilt two motorbikes during the summer before his fifth year, both of which were charmed by his cousin SC Fletcher to fly, to turn invisible etc.) and also taught him how to do small wood carvings.
- The idea for his surname comes from a character in the Doctor Who Episode 'Tooth and Claw, who was called MacLeish and, ironically, had a werewolf attack his home.
- Owns teddy bear called Mr Bibbles who he's had since he was 3.
