Anyamarie Valdez was once a noted prankster in the school of Hogwarts, part of the Marauders. When she was at Hogwarts, she was well known for her pranks and potions (the latter of which she excelled at but was notorious awful at spellwork), not as well as the infamous SC Fletcher, but pretty close. The two were an inseparable pranking duo. However, Anya was from an old Pureblood family who openly supported Death Eaters and being friends with a Half-Blood never came down well - especially after she had once embraced the Pureblood ideologies taught by her old school Diliwan.
During her 6th year at Hogwarts, she was ordered to go home by her father. Shortly after returning, she tried to escape but in doing so, she ran into SC, which led to her kidnap and accidental poisoning, something which helped to break the duo apart and set SC on her post-kidnap path of distrust, insanity and eventually military leadership. The next time the two met, the two had to work together to fend off Death Eaters, before SC tried to take justice into her own hands and shot Anya, thinking she had killed her. For the longest time it was unknown whether she was alive or not but she'd lived through it. After a brief spell with the elves, she is now living in Hogsmeade with a completely different appearance, hoping no-one will recognise her - especially not her old friend SC.

Personal History
Edit
Anya was born in America. Her father was born in England, and her mother in America. She transferred to Hogwarts in her 4th year because her father's job transferred him there. Her father and grandfather were both famous death eaters. Alejandro went to 'visit' his father for a few years during the height of the death eaters' reign. Anya's grandfather was killed by aurors. No sustainable proof ever linked Alejandro to being a death eater himself so Alejandro fled England back to his wife and young daughter. As things went back to normal, the ministry forgot about the Valdez family whose legacy and influence went back beyond that of the Malfoy family so any wrongdoing was overlooked.
Anya and Cathandra Blackwood grew up together. Their mothers were close friends and so naturally they spent a lot of time together. They were best friends and completely inseparable. When her father returned from England he felt that much had been lacking in his daughter's education. Anya attended Diliwan, an elite Pureblood only school. Cathandra was also accepted, but could not believe the person her friend had become in the two months since Alejandro had returned. They soon started fighting. Various rumors circulated about why this occurred, but no one at the school really knew. What started as a simple difference of opinion escalated. Cathandra never supported the pureblood ideology, but she wasn't opposed to it. Cathandra's final breaking point was when Anya started become more popular. Anya was never the leader, never the one who took control and then Cathandra was shoved aside.
Between her attitude and her father's influence, no one messed with Anyamarie Valdez. With her father's encouragement, she demanded respect. By her third year, even the older students knew and feared her. She wasn't cruel, but she still wasn't the nicest person to be around. Even the teachers didn't argue with the youngest Valdez because if they did they would have to deal with her father. Giving in to Anya was always better than being forced to give into Alejandro. She was easily the most popular person at Diliwan. Cathandra and Anya became bitter enemies.
Diliwan's curriculum is broader and more in depth than even Hogwarts. The downside to Diliwan (besides the fact that it's a Pureblood only school that liberally supports Purebloodsupremacy) is once you fall behind in class, you are left behind. If the teacher likes you and you feel the need to learn something, then the teacher may decide to help you. If you can keep up, then you can become extremely talented in that subject. Anya excelled in potions, but little else. The only thing worse than her spellwork is her knowledge of history. However, Anya was talented at making potions look like spells. At Diliwan, she was believed to be amazing at spells because nobody could ever undo her "spells" which were potions delivered to their victim through various ways. Her reputation was sealed after Cathandra had tried to kill her and failed. Anya turned it against Cathandra and could have killed her. Through mistake, Anya nearly killed an innocent bystander. It was covered up by her father, of course and no charges were ever made. Both girls knew that in a fair fight, Anya would have lost because Cathandra could be ruthless and Anya always followed some sort of moral code.
She'd never intentionally killed anyone. True, many students went missing and were never seen again because of Anya, but she'd never killed anyone (well, she had accidentally killed someone, but that's a different story all together). She would modify the person's memory and then permanently change their appearance. Unlike polyjuice potion, this potion never wore off. If she was feeling ambitious and could concentrate, then she would implant false memories of another life. Once through a mistake, Cathandra had been responsible for the muggle family that lived next door to her to be killed. Years later she remarked to her former friend:
"You are nothing. You never were worth my time, so what would have changed?"
Those words were false at the time Anya uttered them, but that didn't stop her from trying to convince herself they were true. Cathandra felt no remorse, which was fueled by Anya's lack of expressed emotion.
Near the end of her 4th year, she transferred to Hogwarts when her father decided to once again support Voldemort. That was when things started changing. Anya hated having to follow her father. She was the perfect Slytherin. However, she wanted to spite her father. She knew the reputation of Slytherin House. It was exactly where her father wanted her and knew she would be. She refused to be sorted there. She was sorted into Hufflepuff, which greatly angered her father. However, she hated it. She was surrounded by halfbloods and mudbloods. Naturally she spent a lot of time alone. The only ones worth talking to were the Slytherins, but they didn't want to talk to her because she was a Hufflepuff.
One day, she was the victim of a prank at the hands of three Gryffindor girls: Chantelle, Rachel and Michael (who had previously attacked the Hufflepuff Common room with a terrible potion). Shortly after that, she met SC Fletcher. They started their first prank together (SC already had a wonderful reputation as a prankster). Earlier, the three girls had put a Putrid Potion in their common room, which was impossible to get out until Anya finally discovered an antidote. Rumors were spreading about how they were planning on doing it again. So with the help of a Gryffindor (they had not yet gained access to all four common rooms), they were able to get their revenge. That was only the start of what came to be known as the Destructive Duo (they would later be called the Marauders). The summer before her fifth year, her mother died. Kirstin did not like the lifestyle Alejandro was trying to raise Anya in. The only reason Anya was not completely evil was because of her mother. This was a problem in Alejandro's eyes. Anya, fearing for her own life as well, fled Valdez Mansion. She came back the next day only to find no trace of her mother. She was now at her father's mercy. That day was never mentioned again. As usual, Anya put on her mask, revealing nothing of how she really felt. When Anya told SC about this, it was the beginning of the problems in their friendship.
Anya never experienced much romance at Hogwarts. She came closest after starting a potions business with fellow Potion Master Garius Zee. While never up to Weasley's Wizard Weezes level of success, business was booming. They ran their business (including the brewing of potions and everything) in a hidden north tower. However, he was more interested in medicinal than pranking potions. He left Hogwarts shortly after the business started to grow. Anya just let the business die, rather than continuing it alone. List of potions offered..
One night SC and Anya decided to prank the Slytherins. After setting their plan in motion, Snape started chasing them. They ran into a room that they had never known existed. There they were greeted by the following message:
"Welcome to the Marauder's Common Room Safe for the first group of troublemakers to come by. You now choose who's a member of this house."
Shortly after, they found a teddy bear, which told them what their animangus was; they took a random nickname based on their animal. Anya was a white cat (which she already knew from when she was at Diliwan) and picked up the nickname Mouse. From here, their pranking abilities only escalated. They were aided by troublemaking knowledge from pranksters that had attended Hogwarts for centuries. However, most of their help came from the last set of Marauders (Padfoot, Prongs, Moony, and Wormtail). They only told two other people about the common room, Angelina Black and Arriette Angel (check). However, most of their pranks were just done by the destructive duo. Angelina did not do much, largely thanks to the fact that she was pregnant with her twins and busy with other things.
Her time at Hogwarts was when Anya perfected her lying skills. She was always good at lying, but became a pro at it while at Hogwarts. She pretended to be an innocent and fun-loving as SC was. Somewhere along the way, Anya changed. She really was fun-loving. She was someone who didn't want to have dark secrets; didn't want to deal with life or death situations at home. After a while even Anya believed the words that were coming out of her mouth. Occasionally she slipped and let out a dangerous threat or suggested a deadly prank, which went unnoticed in the lighthearted atmosphere. She started to believe SC's ideals about equality and her idea of what the "right" thing was. The more time she spent with her best friend, the more she felt that her father was wrong.
This change was not going unnoticed at home. Her father eventually gave her the ultimatium to kill SC or come home. It's not that they really felt any need for her to be dead, but Alejandro wanted his Anyamarie to prove she hadn't gone soft. It wasn't that he actually cared about her, it was that he didn't want her to negatively reflect upon him. Anya spent weeks trying to decide what to do. She considered running, but was sure her father would catch her if she tried. She was growing paranoid with every passing day about the lengths her father would go to in order to force her to go back. The thought to actually do what her father said never entered her mind.
The last planned prank of Student Attacking Marshmallow never made its debut because Anya had already decided she would go home. She helped make the plans. Neither SC nor Anya knew the required spell that would be needed, so they had decided to wait to do it. It was never done. Anya doesn't even know if SC ever found a spell that would make marshmallows only stick to students and nothing else.
Upon leaving, SC gave her a gift. It was book that had all their letters, pictures, and other memorabilia from their countless pranks. It was bewitched so that only Anya and SC could see it (a fact that she neglected to mention) and so that SC could see what she was up to (also something that was forgotten to be mentioned). When she got home, there was a lovely surprise. Cathandra Blackwood had been captured by death eaters. Anya convinced her father to let the girl live so she could "experiment" on her. Anya no longer hated her former friend, but did not feel like risking her neck to save her. A few months after being there, Anya had more than enough of being there. She tried to run away, but was followed. Unfortunately, she ran into SC, who was then taken prisoner. In order to save both her necks, she lied saying that she intentionally had ran into SC so that she could have another test subject.
Anya could no longer ignore her two prisoners. She was expected to act. She pulled out an old potion that hadn't been used in years. However, she had forgotten that SC was severely allergic to one of the ingredients and accidentally poisoned SC. SC refused to trust her any longer. The reactions of the potion would not be as bad if SC would have listened to her, but there was nothing left to save their friendship at this point. Anya fled the mansion once again, this time to get help. She did not think that she could have gotten SC out alone so went to Hogsmeade. She led Jack Callaghan and Angelina Black to Valdez Mansion. They were met outside by SC and Cathandra. SC left with the other two with nothing but hatred for her. Anya knew she was dead if she reentered the house and so she fled.
Having nowhere else to go, she went back to Hogsmeade. Ange proved to be the only one with any sympathy at all for her. Ange talked her into going back to school. Anya agreed to finish her 6th year.
SC and Anya were no longer talking. To prevent further fights, Dumbledore gave permission (rather ordered) for Anya to change houses to Slytherin. Before the year even ended, Anya grew tired of the bullcrap and left. Everyone seemed to believe SC's side. It didn't help that she'd been put in the house famous for putting out death eaters. The Slytherins knew she was a blood traitor (having helped a halfblood escape). She hated it. Right before leaving, she received a summons from the Ministry. Claire had officially accused her of being a death eater. The only witnesses to what had happened at Valdez Mansion were Claire and Cathandra. Anya easily convinced them that SC's testimony was not to be trusted (it was incredibly obvious that she was insane). Cathandra refused to testify. Anya knew enough that could be used against her that she didn't dare testify. Many students from Diliwan did testify against her, but none of their testimonies were relevant, it had all occurred outside the jurisdiction of the British ministry. After being cleared, Anya fled and was on the run. She was constantly randomly apparating to various places, with no real plan in her mind. The ministry had started to think that Anya had lied at her hearing and wanted to retry her. The death eaters, of course, were always looking for her since she had helped SC escape (even though she revealed nothing that she knew about them to the ministry). In an effort to spite them, she started contemplating suicide. Her biggest fear was death, so she never could do it. She finally was starting to get over this fear and had made up her mind for sure when she ran into Claire again. For a while, they were talking, almost like old times, but that was never to be. The meeting ended with SC shooting her in the stomach.
No one knew exactly if she lived or died from this experience. Anya had been hit, the drops of blood left behind were proof of that. However, Anya disapparated immediately after being hit. Whether she is dead or not, no one knew. SC assumed that her ex-friend was dead. Not a tear was shed over this assumption.
When Anya apparated, she was in a completely different place. She passed out immediately from loss of blood. She was discovered by Andaer Seregon. The elves took pity on her. She was taken in and welcomed into the Rhovan Meril family. However, prior to this, she was thoroughly questioned using every method they knew. It was not pleasant. They knew beyond a doubt what she had done, but they also learned of her change of heart. They allowed her to stay with them. She was renamed Raina Saerwen. It didn't take long for her to fall in love with Andaer. She felt no loyalty to the rest of the elves. When the entire elven council met and deliberated what to do with Anira, Anya misunderstood their intentions and thought it was about Jacob. She knew she could not do anything against SC, but she could assure that SC's cousin could be killed. An added bonus to this plan was that last she knew, the two were close. Anya knew enough about Jacob to insure that he would be killed.
What she had not planned on was Anira lying during the meeting and said she loved him. Anira was Andaer's favorite cousin. If Jake was killed, then it would hurt Anira, which would hurt Andaer. Trying to convince herself it was the only reason she was helping him, she helped him to escape with the "promise" he wouldn't reveal she was alive. She fully expected SC to know the second Jake got back that she hadn't died. She didn't want to hurt the only person she actually cared for. In addition, Anya could honestly say she'd never killed anyone. She couldn't go through with it. It would have hurt her conscience. She'd done some terrible things, but she'd never killed anyone (which was the worst thing she believed she could do to something). By this point, Anya had overcome her fear of death, but she still believed it to be the worst thing.
It didn't take long for the elves to realize that Anya had helped him escape. She was already in trouble for keeping essential information from them about Jake (i.e. that he's a werewolf), but then helping him escape would have resulted in her death for sure. Andaer helped her escape. He didn't trust her anymore, but he didn't think she deserved death. She completely changed her appearance with the potion she used to feed her victims. They now live in Hogsmeade so that Anira would have someone close she could talk to. Anya just hopes no one recognizes her.
Personality
Edit
While at school, Anya was always laughing and having fun. She was thought to be a fun prankster. However, just as she was starting to become the person her reputation said she was, her father refused to let it happen. She became fearful for her life. After SC's refusal to forgive her (she still doesn't understand why SC hates her so bad), she's angry a lot. She's become bitter (which led to her being called Saerwen by the elves). She doesn't see a point to her life, but still tries to put on a happy face and pretend that her world hasn't completely collapsed. However, she's not suicidal and won't take her own life.

Character Trivia
Edit
- Most of her potions taste like chocolate, but they smell like lavender
- She played Chaser for the Hufflepuff team (for two of the three years Hufflepuff won the cup under SC) - see Quidditch Cup victories for more
- The name Anyamarie Valdez came from a character in a book the person behind Anya is writing. However, she's a completely separate character.
- The Valdez family is one of the oldest wizarding families, however, Anya and her father are the last two. The name Valdez ends with her (as will, most likely, the line).
